Ballet «The Nutcracker»
About
The premiere took place on December 6, 1892, the Mariinsky Theater, St. Petersburg. The ballet "The Nutcracker" is perhaps Tchaikovsky's most recognizable work. This is a performance that New Year's holidays all over the world cannot do without. It's hard to imagine, but the story of the creation of this Christmas tale began only in 1890. At the same time, Tchaikovsky received an order from the Directorate of the Imperial Theaters for a one-act opera and a two-act ballet to be staged in one evening. For the ballet, the composer chose the plot of E.T.A. Hoffman's fairy tale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King". First, he himself outlined the plot in writing from the words of Alexander Vsevolozhsky, and then began to work together with Marius Petipa. The renowned master, as you know, gave Tchaikovsky a detailed plan-the order of the choreographer's exposition and advice on the nature of the music. The ballet "The Nutcracker" is perhaps the most recognizable work of Tchaikovsky. A dozen years have passed and major choreographers began to return to the production of The Nutcracker again. The performance of V. Vainonen in 1934 on the stage of the Leningrad Kirov Theater in many ways surpassed the first production of Petipa and Ivanov. It has become a classical ballet of the XX century, performed not only by mature artists, but also by students of the Academy of Russian Ballet. Yuri Grigorovich presented his production of The Nutcracker on the Moscow stage in 1966. According to numerous opinions, he managed to create the perfect solution to Tchaikovsky's score. The first performers of the roles of Marie and the Nutcracker Prince in the editorial office of the Bolshoi Theater were the brilliant dancers Ekaterina Maksimova and Vladimir Vasiliev.
