«CARMEN» by J. Bizet

Soldiers, stopping near a tobacco factory, admire beautiful girls. They are waiting for a break when the workers come out, but most of all they are waiting for the burning gypsy Carmen. She flirts with soldiers and performs habanera. And only Don Jose is indifferent to her: he has a fiancee, Michaela! Carmen is angry about this, and she seeks to get the heart of the young sergeant, which she very soon comes out.

Escamillo, the theoremador, appears in the tavern and performs his verses. Like many men, he admires Carmen, but he is not of any interest to the girl. Everyone leaves, Don Jose appears next to the tavern. The girl dances and sings for him. Jose hears a signal that means he has to return to the barracks, and Carmen, first with anger and then with tenderness, asks him not to leave. The captain of the regiment where Jose serves appears on the threshold and orders him to return. Jose draws his saber. Suddenly gypsies burst in, disarm the captain, and Jose is now forced to quit his service and join the smugglers.

Don Jose misses his past life, he is supported only by his love for Carmen, who no longer needs him. Jose shoots at a figure that is sneaking in their direction. As it turned out, this is Escamillo, who was tracking Carmen. A fight ensues between the men, Escamillo's dagger breaks and he falls, but Carmen prevents death. Michaela is also nearby, who says that Jose's mother is ill, and Carmen is forced to let him go.

Escamillo's performance. He goes on stage with Carmen and leaves. Don Jose appears and asks her to return his love. Having been refused, he stabs Carmen with a dagger, and then falls at the feet of her dead body.
