About

Muted light, projector beam and mesmerized faces of the audience. Heroes from the sand are born as if by magic and surprise even the most sophisticated viewer, forcing, with bated breath, to follow the magic of the hands.

Sand animation is a young but rapidly gaining popularity art direction. It's amazing how, with the help of simple sand and a table with a backlight, you can depict masterpieces that take your breath away! In fact, you can draw with any bulk material - salt, sugar, finely ground coffee or flour, sometimes they are used for additional effects. But the main tool remains irreplaceable - these are the artist's hands.

The whole difficulty lies in the interactivity of the process. The drawing appears and disappears before the eyes of the audience, so every movement of the artist's hand should be as accurate as possible. The dynamism of the sand show is given by a sufficiently high drawing speed and frame rate to maintain the viewer's interest all the time. A real artist does not remove the previous layer of sand from the table before starting a new frame, the images should be unexpected, but at the same time smoothly flow into each other.

In some cases, artists have been preparing for weeks and months. Despite the fact that the show lasts only 1.5 hours, it requires quite careful preparation.

Sand animation, or, as it is also called, the powder technique, was invented by Canadian cartoonist Carolyn Leaf. In the 70s of the XX century, she decided to shoot her diploma short film in such an unusual way. The effect of this action was so great that it was very soon known all over the world.

The animator of the sand show is an artist, director, screenwriter and even an actor in one person, because sand animation is not just fine art, but a real shadow theater. A sand professional can animate fairy-tale characters, nature, and even draw a portrait. And what seems to be similar!

In addition to the charming beauty, sand animation also has therapeutic properties. It promotes the development of imaginative thinking, eliminates negative emotions and is very soothing. A significant role in this is played by musical accompaniment.

Music in sand animation is very important because it is part of the image. We do not perceive animation separately from music. If there is a video, the sounds are synchronized along with how the artist draws.

Thanks to the exclusive project "Music of sand. Symphony of Impressionism" you will be transported to another world for a while, where an extraordinarily beautiful story will be born before your eyes. Accompanied by organ and piano music performed by Honored Artist of Russia Svetlana Berezhnaya, sand animation artist Lilia Chistina will reproduce colored sand canvases of great artists in real time. The exclusive plot of the sand animation will give viewers the opportunity to hear famous musical works in a spectrum of new visual sensations. This performance is able to touch the strings of everyone's soul, delight and cause a range of incredible emotions.
