Stefano Bazzi (Switzerland)
Conductor
Stefano Bazzi holds diplomas in Guitar, Composition, and Orchestral Conducting from the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory in Parma, as well as a diploma in Conducting (Contemporary Repertoire) from the Conservatory of Southern Switzerland (Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana). He also earned a degree in Musicology, having studied at the University of Pavia and Humboldt University in Berlin.
He pursued advanced studies in Baroque music interpretation with Ottavio Dantone and Ton Koopman, and in operatic and symphonic repertoire with Isaac Karabtchevsky, Jesús López Cobos, and Ralf Weikert. He served as assistant to Giorgio Bernasconi for the *Novecento e presente* series at Swiss-Italian Radio (RSI) and was a finalist for conducting positions with the Orchester Liechtenstein-Werdenberg, the Stadtorchester Grenchen, and the Edward Said National Conservatory in Jerusalem.
He has conducted the Teatro Regio di Parma Orchestra at the Conservatory’s Sala Verdi, the “Luigi Cherubini” Orchestra at the 2007 MusicaRivaFestival, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid at the Teatro Real, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at the 2008 St Magnus Festival, the Orquestra de Cadaqués at the 2013 International Conducting Competition, and—for two consecutive years—the Beethoven Orchester Bonn at the renowned Beethovenhalle. In 2016, he conducted the North Caucasus State Orchestra—one of Russia’s oldest symphonic institutions—and was subsequently invited back in 2018 and 2021.
He is currently the conductor of the Lugano Chamber Orchestra and a music teacher at the Liceo Cantonale di Lugano 1.
